GM and Tesla Acquiring Mining Companies to Meet Future Demand
GM and Tesla are currently leading the charge in securing the lithium supply chain by acquiring lithium mining companies. GM is competing for a stake in Vale’s base metals unit, which may give GM access to the Brazilian mining company’s copper and nickel resources that are essential to making EV batteries.
In January, GM invested $650 million in Lithium Americas to support the development of Nevada’s Thacker Pass mine, which will support 1 million EVs per year.
The moves are part of GM’s strategy to sell only plug-in models by 2025. It has opted to build its own battery pack and dedicated EV platform rather than rush to market with converted internal combustion hardware.

@Darkness, yesterday was my first time using a Supercharger, what a f!&$ing experience.
The wife was concerned that we will run out of charge in the middle of nowhere, but that fear quickly disappeared once I pulled up and plugged in. This was one of the best experiences where the combination of hardware and software exceeded my wildest expectations.
